Cold Compression (100psi/95psi) and spark seem good although i didnt check timing. It far too long a procedure to do here. You DO NOT adjust the throttle cable to set idle speed or anything related to it. You firstly have to make sure that your cable puls the throttle all the way back. If this does not happen you have to adjust your cables. Another problem can be that the roller of the carb hits the cam to soon. This also increases the idle rpm.

Hi there, I have a 1992 Johnson v4 outboard that I have a couple questions on. The engine runs great once started but when I start it up it has trouble in low idle. I use the high idle lever to start it, then have to quickly switch into gear when I put the lever down or else it will shut down.

Throttle pickup timing (when the cam hits the roller) should be approximatly 4 deg ATDC.
